Wormwood Plates
Buff Stoneware with a stunning Blue Rutile glaze that breaks brown over texture.
Food safe.
Created as an homage to the fallen ash trees on our property, caused by the emerald ash borer. The larvae, often referred to as "woodworm," bore into the wood, creating tunnels and consuming the wood as they develop. What is left behind is devastating, but also stunningly beautiful. This is what I wanted to capture in these very special pieces.
Plate 1- 21 cm diameter
Plate 2- 18 cm diameter
A nod to the Japanese Art of Impermanence: “An acceptance that there is beauty in imperfection, impermanence, and simplicity. It embraces the natural decay and aging of objects, seeing them as more beautiful and unique due to their history. It's a philosophy that encourages acceptance of flaws and a focus on the present moment”.
As with all handmade items, variation in size, shape and colouration is inevitable and part of the inherent charm of the product.
Dishwasher, Microwave and Oven safe.
