Exploring the Intersection of Art and Nature
About Jamila
Born in the Cotswolds, to English and Algerian parents, my work is shaped by a life lived across diverse landscapes and summers spent on the shores of Georgian Bay. Now based in Glen Huron, Ontario, I draw inspiration from my biodynamic homestead on the Niagara Escarpment, where daily life is deeply connected to the natural world.
Working at the intersection of traditional ceramics and contemporary basketry, I create minimalist vessels that balance form and function. Each piece reflects an interest in the quiet complexity of nature and the interconnectedness of living things. My work invites a closer relationship with the environment and our impact upon it — nurturing compassion for the world around us and a deeper sense of belonging within it.
Using ethically sourced and foraged materials, my work blurs the boundary between functional object and fine art, inviting a slower, more attentive relationship with the natural world.
“Nature is my teacher and has much to teach me about life and about myself. Art is my way of creatively expressing my ways of knowing, being and seeing.”
